A good portion of my fellow anime fans have watched the first episode of Amnesia. Most of them did not like it. They called it boring, unoriginal and just not worth their time. I hesitate to say my comrades are wrong, but they are not seeing the anime’s true potential. They don’t understand just what it is the creators of Amnesia are going for.
Last year (2012), we had a popular anime with the name of Sword Art Online. We also had another less popular anime called Accel World. Both of these anime, especially Sword Art Online, featured real characters entering a video game.
The concept of being whisked away into a game or simply a story based around virtual simulation video games is not new. It has been done many times by many series like .Hack/Sign. Amnesia takes this cliche premise and literally turns it on its head.
I regret liking this not because everyone hates it and is out to mock me, nor do I regret because the episode was bad. No, I regret liking it because I know this anime will totally destroy any expectations that I had after that first episode.
If you came to this post expecting a rant about how anime failed the source material, then you will leave disappointed. No, the anime is brilliant. I don’t remember what happened in the first manga chapter, but it was likely not much better (or better at all) than the anime interpretation.
Seriously, if you are only taking a quick glance and have no time to entertain this post, then go watch it. MGX(Nazo no Kanojo X) is magnificent.
I really should be studying hard. Exams start on Monday, and I have done almost no studying whatsoever. So, instead of wasting time procrastinating on studying, I have decided to quickly write this quick impressions post.
Oh, and you guys (all 2.5 of you) should totally vote for me in the Ani-Blog Tourney! Totally!
So, it’s finally here. This is the most hyped show of the season, how will it fare? Will it live up to the strict expectations of otaku worldwide? Will it become the next Code Gease? Will it be able to move those figurines and DVD’s and subsequently be the savior of the anime industry? Or, will it flop, fall flat, and disappoint like a Chinese kid with an A-?
