I don't know if I was thinking of it being that complicated, really. It could have been pretty much a simple war of land acquisition, or perceived or real slights, or retaliation for human aggression, or any of the 'normal' ways that wars start. Mainly I'm commenting that our perspective is almost indelibly colored by the way it's been presented, as is Emi's, and she has a hard time reconciling it because of that presentation.

There's a lot of room for 'evil' in a war, but that doesn't mean most of the people in the war are evil. And Maou's ignorance is borne out of the same thing that Emi's is. He didn't realize humans were like they are, but at the same time, Emi is having more trouble than Maou is at figuring out the demons she's in contact with.

I have been meaning to watch the last couple of episodes for a while now. I have them downloaded and everything!

But yeah, I have heard great things about the ending. I can't wait to see it.

7.6KM is HUGE. I want to go to Oorai School.

The characters were indeed quite cute. I really like most of the main cast, especially the Orange haired one and the ever-sleepy driver. :P

So, you figured that we only got the impression that demons are bad because the background story was presented from the perspective of humans and that had we seen the demon perspective, we might have felt sympathetic towards them as well?

Yeah, that is certainly a plausible theory. I had considered that as a possibility as well; especially since some of the humans like the clergymen seem rather suspicious.

It is possible or likely even that out of some maligned hate or for some religious reason, they started a war.

Having said that, I am slightly hesitant to think like that because Maou was rather ignorant of humans. He didn't really have a reason to hate them, I think.

You are not wrong though. There is probably likely much more under the surface than "humans good and demons bad". :P

I had taken a slightly different view of the same dichotomy you point out. I have wondered if the show has intentionally misled us as to the supposed misdeeds of Maou and the demons, both through his naming (loaded with inherent connotations of 'evil') and through the perspective: The humans fought back against his aggression and valiantly prevailed, etc, etc. Humans good, Demons bad. Simple, right?

But in war it's not that simple. In a lot of wars there's not just one 'evil' side, at least to the 3rd party observer. There aren't the 'good guys' or the 'bad guys', unless you're on one side of the war, then by definition your side is good guys.

Where I'm going with this is that maybe yeah, there were excesses and horrible things done in the name of the demons by Lucifer and probably the other generals, and Maou probably knew about them. But it's also likely that the humans hands are not really clean either, and that they committed some atrocities as well. I might be barking up the wrong tree with this, but I think it would be a good way to present it.

Nice review! The show ended in March and with a bang too! I love it, and cannot wait for more!
Oorai school is 7.6 kilometers long... just fyi.
I was impressed at just how many characters there were. Sure most are stereotypes, same with every anime, but they all were cute!
Girls + Tanks = Win!

Well, there was awkwardness, but it was usually done on purpose by Mao to put Kyoro off. Or he just didn't know how to deal with the girls, but he never compensated for not knowing what to do with being a jerk or anything except being himself.

The show really did do everything well. (I have just now, writing this comment, put together the sister connection between Kirara's ability to write out coherent Japanese mails and Geri's ability to write perfect Japanese on her whiteboard, but neither are really able to speak it.) It gave every one of the cast members a great personality. There was noone bad, noone was the heavy. They all took turns at all parts. And it took the running joke to a whole new level, I think. The hair brushing, the girls twirling, Megumi's weight worries... And then it ended just about perfectly, with Kyoro really understanding the GJ-bu spirit.
