The Fate series has already been featured twice (1 & 2) before in my 12 Day posts, and it will be featured a third time for 2014 and likely a fourth for 2015 as well! It should be obvious by now, but I like this series a lot.
Unlimited Blade Works Part 1 was a lot of fun, but there actually isn’t much to say about what what was in it (most of the heavy plot stuff will supposedly happen in the second half).
Here is a tumblr for you.
Saber x Food
UBW may have had large amounts of plot explanations, occasional Shirou idiocy and other Fate-isms, but it had glorious animation especially during fight scenes. In forums like /r/anime, UBW is often referred to as Unlimited Budget Works because of its very shiny, exquisite animation. Now, of course this is technically not true, but at the very least, it looks really good.
Nowhere is this more apparent then the few battle scenes that part 1 actually graced us with. Archer vs Lancer, Saber/Archer vs Berserker, Archer vs Caster, Saber vs Assassin, Kuzuki vs Saber/Emiya were all shiny, very memorable battles each of which was not only well animated, but also very well choreographed.
The Iconic Summoning
There is one image from Fate Stay Night that has always been used when the series comes up. It is an incredibly iconic image from the VN and the original F/SN that likely every anime fan has stumbled across.
Most Memorable Thing
I want to point out that I have no previous experience with Fate/Stay Night. I have seen Fate/Zero and only seen pictures or read the occasional spoiler from F/SN. Going in, I had assumed Saber and Rin were the popular characters from F/SN and to an extent they are, but I had greatly underestimated Archer.
I can now see why people have said they were “gar for Archer” or gay for GARCHER. Either way, Archer is basically the hyper masculine, super cool guy that every eleven year old boy trapped in an adult body look up to (example of one such boy: me).
Not only is he super handsome, tall, muscular and GAR, but he is also accompanied by this deep sexy voice.
Sure, Archer has a few temperamental problems. If he doesn’t like your peace loving naivete, he will try and kill you, but that is a small detail which isn’t really important. Nope, not all.
He is also pretty smug and his interactions with Rin are the best. I love how he puts up with her tsundere nature. “Ah, the uncharacteristic lack of verbal abuse had me worried” is such an amazing line.
Anyway, that is all I have to say about F/SN UBW. I am pretty hyped for part 2 in Spring.
