Manga and how it kept saving me

CW: This is a personal, somewhat depressing blog post. No notions of self-harm or anything, but some low points in my life.
Let’s go back in time to 2015. I was getting ready to wrap up school. I had a job offer from my final internship and if I accepted it, I’d get a nice big paycheck working for <EVIL TECH COMPANY> in the US. My primary hesitation at the time was that something just didn’t feel right.
I didn’t want to grow up. I had an inkling that once I settled into a job, that’s all I would do. All of my personal ambitions, goals etc would just be tossed away as I came home too tired from work to do anything. There was a feeling in me that if I just followed the easy path, nothing interesting would come out of my life.
So, I made the bold, but very reckless decision to turn down that job offer and make a last second u-turn towards Grad School. My good friend at the time even questioned me, “are you sure? Usually folk who go to grad school plan for it years ahead not as they are about to graduate?”. He was right, of course.

Ever since I read Angel Densetsu so many years ago, I have loved manga about protagonists who look scary but are super sweet. One Point Yankee (Toorigakari ni One Point Advice shite iku Type no Yankee) is one such manga.
Where Angel Densetsu stars a scary looking, very good, but otherwise normal boy, One Point Yankee is a bit more closer to something like Machida-kun where our protagonist (called Sakurai-san) edges closer to Saint territory. He is so good.
Actually given that Sakurai-san is so good at everything and is full of mystery, it might be far more accurate to say Sakurai-san is Machida combined with the perfection of Sakamoto.

Scrambling to get through some quarantine content. I hope you all are doing well and are safe during these anxious times.
Read Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute (the Eminence in Shadow). It is probably the funniest isekai I have tried.
Mofumofu to Isekai Slow Life o Mezashimasu is nice!

With respect to tone, Isekai stories tend to come in 3 varieties. There is the standard pace ‘strong mc gets to go an adventure’, the recently popular ‘revenge I HATE EVERYONE’ super edgy tone and the pure slice of life fluffy story.
Contrary to what the title suggests, Mofumofu isn’t completely in the fluffy side of the spectrum, rather it veers between fluffy and standard and for me that’s perfect. I occasionally like the fluffy ‘I just do farming’ isekais, but they usually don’t grab me like a good adventure would.
Some thoughts on the incredible Quintessential Quintuplets manga
Hi, so after finishing the Quintuplets(5Toubun no Hanayome) anime on Thursday, I decided to read through the manga and phew oh boy, I have thoughts.
Don’t read this post if you haven’t read up to and including chapter 79.
(Oh and this manga has that habit of pulling what the fucks out of thin air, so apologies if a future chapter completely invalidates this entire post.)
God Knows How Long Shonen Catchup: Bleach 655-660, One Piece 810-814
Posted by Reiseng in Shonen, Weekly Shonen on January 31, 2016
Well, I say God Knows Long, but really it is a bit like two months (only 6 Bleach chapters) since I last made one of these.
Still, woops. Oh and this post is a real mess. I tried writing it as I was rereading the chapters, so it ended up really long and kinda boring! This post is basically just manga screenshots with large amounts of accompanying description.

WOOOOPS. It is not that I forgot, but I, uhh, procrastinated and played Clannad, Fallout 4 and grinded a Fate/Grand Order event. Yeah, I did nothing useful. Sorry. I will keep this short.
